On October 07, 2022, “Meta Platforms Inc. reported roughly 1 million Facebook users account credentials may have been compromised due to security issues with apps downloaded from Apple Inc. and Alphabet Inc.’s software stores.” Specifically, it has been reported that there have been “more than 400 malicious Android and iOS apps this year that target internet users in order to steal their login information.” The apps disused themselves as “fake photo editors, games, health trackers etc.” “Cybercriminals know how popular these types of apps are, and they’ll use similar themes to trick people and steal their accounts and information,” said David Agranovich, a director of global threat disruption at Meta. Even more concerning is that the majority of the apps had required a Facebook log-in for access, with some having the ever trusted “two-step authentication,” but experts reported that app developers could’ve still achieved illegal access to those accounts.
Kneejerk reaction is to “get off social media” or the polar opposite, “who cares, accounts are hacked all the time.” As we have stated in previous posts, young people reportedly do not care that “China has their information.” XposURe LLC has a different answer--Learn the tools and techniques developed by professionals to hide your personal information while still accessing social media. Turn your digital footprint into a hardened target, likely to deter a hacker or cybercriminal, as typically the bad actor will likely move on to the next user who does not employ these proven techniques.
