Public UBS charging stations can usually be found in pedestrian traffic heavy areas, particularly travel hubs, such as airports and bus stations. These charging stations provide a soft and easy target for malicious actors attempting to steal information or install malware on unsuspecting devices.
The industry term for this sort of intrusion is "juice jacking". Malicious actors will tamper with these stations in order to gain information such as passwords, credit card details and browsing history.
If you travel often invest in a charging bank to carry with you always have a trusted way in ensuring your devices are charged. Additionally there are products such as "USB condoms" which only allow the transfer of power through the cords and not data.
Be smart when traveling and stay away from public USB charging stations.
