Advancements in India for Data Protection Still Maybe Years Away

Updated: Mar 12, 2022

As reported by The Daily Swig Cybersecurity News and Views India will be following in the footsteps of the European Union and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) which developed and implemented data protection rules for businesses operating within the European Union as India is preparing to enact new laws for better cybersecurity practices with a “heavy focus on the protection of data.” India’s lawmakers believe that India has been at a “disadvantage on the international stage” as they have not kept up with “the digitization of commerce and services and the growth of social media.” India will look to the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) as a model to develop India’s version. Keeping in mind the amount of business transactions conducted by Americans and American companies with India this will likely be a step in the right direction for the protection of data for both India-based organizations and American entities alike, however India is at the initial stages of this venture, which begs this question in regard to transactions with India-based companies: How safe is your data currently?
